How do we navigate the space of conversation when the thing we say is not the thing itself? We can only talk around the subject: at at angle to it or, catching winds and measuring wavelengths, skirting along the edges of things. Over 3 hours we map the territory of our thoughts as they unravel: drawing patterns, sketching landmarks, tracking recursions through mental space. Some paths go unnoticed and we never return to them. Others are well worn over hours or years.
